God’s Name Matters

Today’s reading is Leviticus 24-27.

“Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, ‘Bring out of the camp the one who cursed, and let all who heard him lay their hands on his head, and let all the congregation stone him. And speak to the people of Israel, saying, Whoever curses his God shall bear his sin. Whoever blasphemes the name of the LORD shall surely be put to death. All the congregation shall stone him. The sojourner as well as the native, when he blasphemes the Name, shall be put to death'” (Leviticus 24:13-16, ESV).

I certainly won’t advocate the death penalty for blasphemers under our New Covenant. Before you utter “God,” “Jesus,” or “Jesus Christ” as an exclamation, a complaint, or even as surprise, please consider how awesome God’s name really is. God’s name matters. And remember as you are texting, tweeting, or posting, “OMG” doesn’t mean O Majestic God. If you want to be God filled, you have to be filled with honor for God. Use God’s name wisely today.

We would love to know what you got out of today’s reading. Let us know in the comments section.

Tomorrow’s reading is Numbers 1-5.
