On Eagles’ Wings

pallas's Fish eagle by Koshy Koshy

Today’s reading is Isaiah 36-40.

“Do you not know? Do you not hear?
Has it not been told you from the beginning?
Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth?
It is he who sits above the circle of the earth,
and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers;
who stretches out the heavens like a curtain,
and spreads them like a tent to dwell in;
who brings princes to nothing,
and makes the rulers of the earth as emptiness.

“Have you not known? Have you not heard?
The LORD is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He does not faint or grow weary;
his understanding is insearchable.
He gives power to the faint,
and to him who has no might he increases strength.
Even youths shall faint and be weary,
and young men shall fall exhausted;
but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint.”

Isaiah 40:21-23, 27-31

What could I add to this? Praise the LORD!

Tomorrow’s reading is Isaiah 41-45

The Eternal Goal of the God Filled

The Doorman at the Ritz in London by JR P

Today’s reading is Psalm 81-85.

We spend most of our lives trying to figure out how we can earn more and have more. We want to excel with a job that makes the most money providing us with the most things. While excelling in whatever we do is a worthy and biblical goal (cf. Ecclesiastes 9:10), the God Filled have an even greater goal. “For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness” (Psalm 84:10, ESV). The God Filled don’t have to own or manage God’s house, simply being the doorman there is good. Why? Because the God Filled long for the Giver more than His gifts and they are simply happy to be in God’s presence. What could be better than being in God’s house?

Tomorrow’s reading is Psalm 86-90.

Remember!

Forgot What I Wanted to Remember by Flood G

Today’s reading is Psalm 76-80.

Some days it feels like God is gone. We may ask, “Will the Lord spurn forever, and never again be favorable? Has his steadfast love forever ceased? Are his promises at an end for all time? Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he in anger shut up his compassion?” (Psalm 77:6-9, ESV). Sadly, if we don’t see some new work from God each day, we can begin to think He has vanished. However, “I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, I will remember your wonders of old” (Psalm 77:11, ESV). For the Psalmist that meant remembering the exodus from Egypt, but for us that means remembering the deliverance from and victory over sin accomplished through the sacrifice, burial, and resurrection of Jesus, God’s Son. What new thing can God do to show His love for us more than that? Remember!

Monday’s reading is Psalm 81-85.

P.S. I’d love to invite you to meet with the church of Christ that meets in Brownsburg this Sunday as we REMEMBER by participating in the Lord’s memorial supper. See you there.

The Greatest Desire of the God Filled

God-creating-man-by-Waiting-For-The-Word

Today’s reading is Psalm 71-75.

Why do you want to go to heaven? Is it the mansions, the streets of gold, the lap of luxury? Is it the reunion with lost loved ones, the connection with saints never met? “Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth I desire besides you” (Psalm 73:25, ESV). It’s not wrong to have some of those other desires for eternity, but what is the true driving force behind the God Filled? The presence of God. Heaven will be amazing, but not because we finally get to find out how the other half lives. It will be amazing because God is there. What could be better than that?

Tomorrow’s reading is Psalm 76-80.
